All jokes about Nicholls aside, how are these programs for bachelor's and grad? I have a friend who's particular situation would benefit her going to Nicholls. The only question is whether or not it is a quality program. Thanks in advance.

well what she wants to do with the major, career wise, is important to if the quality of the program matters or not

She is a bit limited as far as resources to branch out really. She's trying to pay for it all herself and using loans only when necessary. It helps that she has family in the area that she can stay with to help on cost of living.

Have a friend there in the graduate program. She says everything is a joke and she hates it. Classes are easy. They pretty much pass everyone with an A or B. We went to undergrad together at LSU for wildlife management. Also make your friend aware that the budget is crap so her experience will suffer due to that.

I was hoping it had decent funding and could do some good research being right next to the worst environmental disaster ever. How are job prospects for your friend as a graduate?

probably not great since whether or not she works in consulting or industry, its all connected to the O&G field, and O&G just isn't hiring that much right now, especially people with no experience

If it is connected to O&G I figure the oil field will be back up by the time she is done. If all her credits transfer she has two years on a bachelor's left to go.

I know that's a given. Figured there are a few other options but I know that O&G takes the lion's share.

Yeah. I'd say it depends on where she wants to work right out of the gate. If she plans on staying in Louisiana, then I don't think a degree from Nicholls would hurt her. If she's looking to work in a larger, governmental or non-profit agency somewhere else, the name recognition isn't there. I don't really know about the quality of the program, though. As for the comment on the quality of the grad program there....same could be said for a lot of places. I went to LSU for grad school after Nicholls and the "MBA-level" accounting classes were a complete joke.

Working in Houma and having worked for me I have introduced her to a few people. If she doesn't mind O&G then it would make sense to go to school right next to the industry. I think she is extremely limited if she is dead set against loans at this point.
