Honestly, it is getting much more stringent. Try hair follicle testing.

Also, background checks. Might as well go get a TWIC while you are at it.

If you aren’t a white male you’ll have a better chance at getting in. If you are you better know someone with pull.

You have to have one to work in most facilities.

Being related to someone that works at whatever facility or whatever company your going after is the best way.

Doesn't matter how great your aptitude test scores or, or school grades, or whatever if you're up against nepotism, which is rampant.

You're gonna start at the bottom if you get hired on as an operator. You don't start out making $100,000 a year. You work your way up to that, depending on who you work for. It will probably take you a good solid 3-4 years to get to that, unless you work a shitload of OT and take no time off. Even then, Uncle Sam will stick a dick up you with no lube and nail you on taxes getting taken out.

Who are you related to?

I’m dead serious.

In a new hire class of say 15, about 7 spots are already set aside for family members.

Exxon used to outsource the testing and interview process to another company for the operator hiring process.
Do they no longer do that?

1. Get a rise kit on your dually F-350.
2. make trillions and spend money on other shite that will bankrupt you when the price of oil falls.

I got a little news for you. Operators work at refineries and chemical plants. They really aren’t affected a whole lot by the fluctuations in the price of oil. At least not in a way that would make them lay-off operators.

And 2 of those 7 family members (if that) will actually pan out after five years and be good operators.

You are right about this. My sister works in HR for a large medical complex and she is amazed how many people can't pass the piss test. And it's not just people looking for starting level/janitor positions. Took them 2 months to hire a mid-level computer tech position because of drug/criminal background checks.

I worked in a chem plant for 44 years. Was on many interview teams. P-tech school, and some mechanical experience was always a plus where I worked, but not really necessary. Although it might be the deciding vote when it comes down to you and someone else getting hired. Since I was on several interview teams, should you be fortunate to get an interview, I have many of the interview questions memorized, which if you know them ahead of time will help you to prepare good answers.

Wrong. Process Tech schooling will open the door faster that just general knowledge. You must be able to take tests well because they are going to look hard at your IQ and they will give you a psych test. Stay clean because they will drug test you and do a background check. Stay away from drinking and driving and don't get a lot of tickets.

1. Buy Ford F250 Super Duty
2. Buy Truck nuts

First you have to look the part for the job you want.
