How doctors want to die

Interesting article...makes you think about getting the "whole 9 yards" when you get older.

I once did CPR on my 56 year old invalid aunt because my grandparents, who cared for her for her whole life, expected me to do something to help her. I activated EMS and started CPR and continued compressions in the ambulance all the way to the hospital. I was 19 at the time and it was the first time I had ever seen someone expire.

I knew at the time that I was not actually physically helping anyone involved. Emotionally, that's a different story.

I'm still haunted a bit by that experience.

My dad is at home on hospice right now after spending three weeks in the hospital (2 different trips). These are the kinds of decisions he is having to make. I'd just assume get struck by lightning or hit by a fricking bus.

My mom called Hospice when my grandparents were getting close. It was definitely the right call. At the end (whenever that may be), just worry about comfort over anything.

What happens is you often have family members stuck in the middle and they feel guilty saying that is it.
But at the end of the day it makes no sense to be more "humane" to a pet animal than a human. Most people understand after seeing someone with a prolonged terminal cancer die in a slow and agonizing way.

Some of you remember Fox Mckeithen, who was Lt Governor several years ago. He was injured in a fall and rendered quadriplegic and unable to breathe without a ventilator. He gathered his family around, said his goodbyes, had himself sedated and the ventilator turned off.

What I find even more creepy is what we do to the dead. Spend thousands of dollars to pump them full of chemicals dress them up and apply make up and have people stand around a box and stare at them.

Funerals aren't for the dead. They are for the living. Personally, Scruffy wants to be cremated and buried beneath a tree.

Just FYI....taking her off feeding is not like turning off a ventilator.

I agree w this 100%. About 3-4 months ago my family buried my cousin and it was a shite show and a half. It reaffirmed the decision I made to be creamated and spread across Bandaras Bay.

Doctors want to die at home because they make so much money and living fine arse houses that they're more comfortable there than in those crappy old hospitals.

I remember Fox (who his political opponents criticized for guarding the hen house) during my time in Baton Rouge.

But I did not know the complete story of the end of his life as you have told it. That was great. Surely, it skirts the laws pertaining to assisted suicide, but I'm no expert on this. Thanks for sharing that.
