maybe for you. I'm just getting going at #4

I'm a teetotaler and I'm basing this on observation of LOTS of lushes over my years. Family members, LSU, military, lawyers. A social drinker finishes that third one and guiltily thinks, "Okay - one last one - but that's it." And clearly slows down - like a sane person would.

The serious drinker/binge drinker goes, "Okay. got 4 in me. NOW it's time to get seriously drunk."

It's not unusual for me to drink ~6 beers after work. Of course, it's over a 4-5 hour period so it's not like I'm getting drunk or anything.

I definitely wouldn't classify that as binge drinking.

6*365=2190

per year.

I take it back. That's completely sane to drink ~400 cubic feet of beer per year.

So a social and sane drinker can't sit around and drink beer all day while watching football?

He drinks 6 a day x 7 = 42 a week

I drink ~2 cases over the course of Fri night and all day Saturday. That = ~6.9 a day over the week

frick, I'm worse than the OP

That's the definition of a binge drinker

In my mind - I was processing after work and social engagement drinking - typically limited to 3 (maybe 4) hours, tops of exposure.

I don't think you're "insane" to drink all day watching football, but how much per hour may come into play. 1 per hour? 2 per hour? 4 per hour? At some point, yeah, you cross the line if you put them away too quickly. The problem with alcohol as a drug is that it suppresses centers of judgment. If you already have a tendency to string them together pretty quickly, you won't have a physical response until you're too far gone. Same thing for drunks getting behind the wheel. Not a single one of them is convinced he/she is impaired.

Yeah, 2 cases of beer, every week is probably too much. Y'all do what you want, but I think the rule of moderation works. If you're drinking every single day (which you shouldn't) the limit ought to be 2. If you're at a holiday party, family get together and everybody is getting shitty - yeah, go ahead and get shitty if you want to, but if this happens more than 4 or 5 times a year? You've got a problem.

Same thing for getting drunk (even a little) every weekend. Getting (a little) drunk 10 or 12 times a year? That's probably the line - any more than that - I'm not saying you're an alcoholic (strictly speaking - needs alcohol to function, cannot stop drinking once it starts, etc.), but you might consider you have a problematic relationship with it.

And if you start having negative consequences from it, it's generally too late.

So someone about me who is very health conscious, who eats a very healthy diet and works out religiously has a problem because I get drunk at the pool or beach every Sunday?

How do you function work after drinking the equivalent of 8 beers a day? Natty is weak, but that would still make me feel like total shite the next day.

I'm glad I'm a pot head by nature. I had a late gig last night, and am suffering today from about 4-5 (they were mostly around 6.5%). I could smoke am eighth in a day, and will still wake up at 6 am refreshed, and ready to work.

Not about your liver or your brain - 2 things that cannot be fixed easily, you only have 1 of and need them all the way to the finish line though, right?

I said you're going to have to consider it. Again - do...what...you...want. Just don't be in denial about it like a dope head, coke fiend, crank addict, meth head or pill popper. Know it. Own it if necessary, just don't lie to yourself about it.

If you drank, you'd probably enjoy Cenla more.

I've always thought of a binge drinker as someone who drinks with the express purpose of getting piss drunk and doesn't stop until his mission is accomplished. I was a binge drinker for many years.

Lie about what? Do you honestly think drinking one day per week will have negative mental or physical ramifications?
