How bad does resigning after a year look on a resume?

Looking for options and don't think I can continue on with my current job. Mainly to relocate as well for personal reasons.

I know it's better than being fired after a year working there.

Are you gonna immediately take another job?

Do you already have it lined up?

Personally, I don't think it's a big deal nowadays. It's a dog eat dog world, so worry about your self first and foremost.

Resign, put on your resume you spent a year sailing around the world.

That's none of your damn business. And in the future, I'll thank you to stay out of my personal affairs.

Been putting out resumes and have an interview this Friday morning in Houston. I won't resign until I have something lined up. Looking at feedback until that does occur and what the consequences could be in regards to an employer.

You had to quit to take care of a loved one. They got better.

I took off 8 months between jobs a decade ago and still have to explain it at every interview.

Saying I had enough money saved up not to work and I just felt like not having any responsibilities has seemed to work.

I did have one person reply that they wish they could do the same thing.

Agreed. They'll be impressed by your assertiveness.

I did the same thing about 2 years ago..had been there 13 months and couldn't take another day working for that company. It's no big deal if you do it once, but it's going to look bad if you don't stay at your next job for an extended period. Just tell them you're relocating for family reasons. Or if all else fails, just tell them you're unhappy where you are, they'll understand.

It's ok as long as it isn't a trend.

if you wont resign until you have something lined up, then when you are sending out your resume's it wont say you resigned after a year. Worry about that later, when you resign from your next job

I quit a job after a year because it sucked and I wanted to relocate. Told them I had to take care of a sick family member. No questions asked.

Prospective employers also understand that there are a lot of shitty jobs out there.

Man some of you guys have to be old. Nobody gives a shite anymore. The recession proved that you have to be out for yourself as many employers show no loyalty. Nobody will question you for moving for an improvement. Frame it as an improvement in opportunity or responsibility. It is not uncommon for people to change jobs every few years.

I am 25 and am on job #3 post college. Each job has been a pay increase and put me in a position to continue on a success path. At no point in any interview has it ever come up as a negative that I have switched jobs.

Nobody's going to care unless you habitually leave after one year.

Plus in this economy, employers know there are plenty of good people on the street so it's not as much of a burden to replace you.

I've been at my current job for 3 months

Before this job, my previous 2 jobs were 10 months each. I left all for better opportunities. It didn't hurt me but its not that uncommon in my field.

I'm happy with where I ended up and plan to stay for a long time.
