I bought my house before one existed. Some neighbors are now trying to start one, can I be forced to join?

i think you can be forced. I don't know the legalites of it, but I knew someone in the same position and he was somehow forced to start paying H.O. dues

Was there a development plan in place that your house was a part of reserving the right to create a HOA?

Something worth looking up.

Tell them you'll paint your house neon yellow if they continue with the bs. I wouldn't think they could fine you for existing paint colors

If the majority of the homeowners vote in favor of it, I believe you can be forced. Sounds like it's time to make your case be heard. Good luck

We're probably in the same neighborhood, and I agree that the OT is the proper place to take it. I like a nice neighborhood, but I have a feeling that an HOA can get out of hand quickly.
