Occasionally the air handler will make clicking sounds when turning on. During this period the air flow is noticeably decreased. After varying lengths of time, the clicking stops & the air flow increases to normal rates. From what I've read, it could be a relay or thermostat issue. I changed the thermostat battery, but I don't expect it to resolve the issue. I'd appreciate guidance on how to troubleshoot the issue. The unit is covered by a home warranty, but I would like to narrow down the issue before some random company attempts the repair.

I wouldn't let the home warranty company near your AC.

How old is the AC unit? How long does it take to get to normal airflow?

Unit is 8 years old. When the unit is having issues, normal airflow takes between 15 seconds to a couple minutes. Clicking issues occur more often when the unit is dormant for a few hours before starting.

It's the electronic pilot, the clicking is just like on a BBQ pit striker.
My 2 cents anyway. I assume you're in heat mode.

Unit hasn't been in heat mode since last winter.
