Hit and Run - how do I find this a-hole

Yesterday my truck was involved in a hit and run. Parked in BR and there are several witnesses and a picture of license plate. I reported to police but want to find out who dun it. What are my options. I googled the plate and found a search that gave make and model of the vehicle, but did not provide the owners info. I don't know what I would do with info, just have a burning desire to know who it was.

Maybe a stupid question but what can the average person do with a plate number? Without being a cop, I wouldn't be able to find out anything about the owner at all.

Let the police do their damn job. Document your effort, keep in contact with your insurance and demand results. This is the shite we all pay for. Make them work GDit.
