Damn it. It's on the tip of my tongue. I'm pretty sure it's a German boat, and the fight was off the coast of South America during WWII.

Can't think of the name. Awesome pic, I remember reading about it recently.

Eta: It was fricking with merchant ships in the South Atlantic.

It is a German boat and she did go down off the coast of South America, Uruguay to be exact. I'll give it a few more minutes and see if anyone can remember.

I cheated and right-clicked the image after I was wrong. Never heard of this ship. Interesting stuff. At least I was right that it was a German vessel!
