My personal highest is $80 but I have a friend who got left in New Orleans and spent $163 for a taxi to bring him from NOLA to Prairieville....then had to steal his mom's credit card to pay

Not BR.... but....

Mobile during Mardi Gras after MOT ball... from downtown Mobile to West Mobile was $180.00. Totally worth it vs. risking a DUI or hurting someone else.

Not sure about BR but in Chicago last weekend for the World Series, we were seeing $157 estimates from wrigleyville to down town area (about 6 miles).
Decided to wait it out till it was down to $55.

Last night after the game my buddy had one for $150. He went to Gonzales though.

I took the same ride about an hour later and it was only $50 . He was pissed.

Does Uber software account for the contraflow? If not, then no, she probably didn't agree to spending that much. But, she should have bailed long before running up that tab.

I dont know the story behind that ride but they will sometimes just black out an area around an event like that and no one can be picked up in it.

If she filed a complaint, they will take the shortest route(without contraflow) and give her that price.

I had a driver one time take a bad route and uber refunded the extra mileage. It wasnt anything like that route though

I thought Uber was supposed to be cheaper than a normal taxi? Never used Uber, so enlighten me...do the drivers name their own price? I've heard before that prices skyrocket around big events, but is it the driver who sets that price?

I don't think the driver sets the surge pricing. As I understand it, uber sets the surge pricing based on demand in an area in order to draw drivers to that area.

I had a $65 charge in New Orleans going from Milan to Snake and Jake's one night (about 3 miles). This was just a random Friday night with nothing going on. I emailed Uber the next day saying they were taking advantage of drunk people at 5am, and they gave me a credit for the fare.

IIRC, my dad got one from New Orleans to Mandeville one night that was like $120

Chicago has some of the best public transportation in any city I've ever been in?

Why not that? Or was it ridiculously crowded like NOLA streetcars after the Sugar Bowl or any other major event?
