How bout those New Orleans people who willfully come to BR for college yet complain and compare it to New Orleans non stop.

I have noticed a special kind of hate from my New Orleans friends of everything Baton Rouge (and to a lesser extent, Houston or Atlanta).

I have a soft spot for New Orleans, but I also love Lafayette and Baton Rouge. Of all Louisiana cities, Baton Rouge is probably the most likely place I'd end up if I were to consider a move back to the state.

I think the rivalry between Louisiana's largest cities (and bitter hate in New Orleans' case) is destructive.

There's that unfounded Texas entitlement that makes everyone in the country hate you assholes.

Back to the topic at hand, I'm a Baton Rouge native that currently lives in New Orleans. I dislike my hometown and would never move back, but I also don't waste my time talking shite about it.

Considering all the riff raff BR took in after Katrina they ought to be down on their hands and knees thanking Baton Rouge every day.

Both cities are trying mightily to just become the same town. The Advovate is on NO now, Nola.com has a BR page, everybody moves to Ascension for schools (closer to NO) and people from both towns are trying not to get murdered in the French Quarter. Galatiore's and Acme are in BR now. Walk Ons and Happys are in NO now. You shitheads who bitch about either are the only dumbasses in the argument.

Born and raised in Baton Rouge and I definitely believe it has more in common with Jackson MS than anywhere in south Louisiana.

As a baton Rouge native I have to say it is pretty terrible. Traffic and lack of public transit and taxis leads the way also no real entertainment district and br music scene pretty much sucks also. Downtown is trying but has a long way to go. Outside of lsu sports there really isn't much to do. We really do suck for a city our size

5 years ago, i would have been squarely on the side of the br haters. However, the progress this city has made in that short period is nothing short of astounding, and the best is yet to come.

As someone who has lived in both cities, New Orleans is far more fun, but Baton Rouge is easier living.

Both cities have awful crime and public schools.
New Orleans has a better road grid, but Baton Rouge's roads are in far better condition.
New Orleans has far better public transportation, but br is getting a couple streetcars in the future.
Baton Rouge offers more home for the money, but New Orleans offers more walkable complete neighborhoods.
New Orleans has better public parks, but Baton Rouge has better public athletic facilities and more golf courses.

New Orleans's big advantages lie in professional sports franchises, live music venues, food scene, and bar scene.

While Baton Rouge has made great strides recently in food and entertainment, it will never approach it's big brother to the south, but that's ok. Both cities have a lot to offer, and both have shitty suburbs (Kennahbrah/Metaire/Chalmette/the Wank vs LP/AP/Central/Zachary/the Wank), ghettos (9th Ward/Central City/Iberville vs Plank Road/the bottom/Pakistan), shitty traffic on i-10, and terrible public schools.

Why has growth become the #1 indicator for how good a place is?

Does your life really improve when a bunch of shite gets built next to you? If so, NYC must be the best place to live in the US. It's so economically developed!

A large part of it is the work ethic between the two cities. Baton Rouge is a government town with government work ethic mentality. The work ethic is why people in New Orleans, Lafayette, & Houma don't like Baton Rouge because they actually work for a living instead of living off the government tit.
