No. The second that cop didn't move along after I told him I wasn't giving him any ID/permit I probably would have just walked away. I don't blame the dude, he as right and the cops were wrong. I don't understand how or why there is a debate.

watch the second video. He makes some good points about being worried about someone open carrying and real crime in the hood.
I fully support his right to open carry and I hope he open carries on a daily basis. This is a simple case of bad gun owner/open carry PR. Show him your license and be done with it. If they harass him after that, then I fully support him filming it and making a huge scene.

Some people can't get a concealed carry license for a variety of different reasons. I would rather carry illegally than donate my finger prints but I digress.
If you stuck your dick in crazy and when you wised up she decided to make up some bullshite and file a TRO you can kiss every getting a concealed carry permit good bye. So for you it would either be open carry, or no carry. You choose.

If I felt like I could be in a situation where needed a full sized weapon with a tac light and as many rounds as possible, I would. If he has to go through bad neighborhoods daily, I fully support and encourage open carry.

I have an issue with people like the guy open carrying. Instead of using the situation to educate the person that called the police on him he turns around and just makes an arse of himself and closes the mind of the individual that called the police.
Show your pistol permit to calm the situation down and then I am sure the police would have told that person who called them that it was perfectly legal for the man to be doing what he was doing.

I don't see why this is such a big deal to people.

But you don't support his legal right to not hand over a permit? That's kind of silly, don't you think?

I support his right to do that 100%. As I've stated, ad nauseam, it looks bad for all people that want to open carry (which I also fully support) when people like that are difficult with the public as well as police. As someone stated, it's a missed opportunity to educate the ignorant masses.

Did someone call the cops? I don't think anyone from subway called the police, I could be wrong.

It's not your job to make the police calm down. Cops can't just go around demanding ID. The "if you have nothing to hide, comply" mentality has the potential to cause more harm that good.

Educate whom? The cops clearly knew that guy had zero obligation to even entertain their conversation much less hand over ID. So who would he be educating? Would that responsibility not fall on the police? If someone called the police shouldn't it be the police officers job to tell the person who called that open carry is not a crime and to not waste police time in the future?

All he had to do was hand over his permit and everything would have been fine

The rest of the people in the store and the person who called the cops. If you have a complaint, file it with the PD.

All he had to do is show him his ID, and the cop can clearly tell the manager that it's perfectly legal and they can't do anything about it. Problem solved. I know y'all think he's making some sort of righteous stand but it's giving people who open carry a black eye.

I believe someone in the thread said yes.

Open carry is legal. Im a LA resident so I can pretty much always open carry. So im a douche for following the law?

He called the officers "dickheads" They should have arrested him for Disorderly Conduct (if such a statute exists in that state).

Well the CT State police have a memo on how to deal with open carry of a handgun. If you refuse to show your ID and permit you are subject to arrest for interfering with an officer. CGS 53a-167a

For a handgun, yes.

In certain situations I will open carry, such as in the summer when I don't want to wear a jacket but still have to work in a tucked-in oxford.

At that point it was obvious he was very upset that the officers didn't respond in kind to his confrontational behavior.
The way he talked and raised his voice made it clear that he was NOT just there to order subway. He was there to confront people and make trouble.
