which is nothing out-of-the-ordinary since the building i work in is busy and 5 times out of 10 a female is approaching the door behind me.

i made eye-contact as i held the door (like any other day) and i'm not kidding when i say it was the most awkward 5-10 seconds i've had in my adult life.

she mumbled something like 'thanks' and stared down at the floor as she passed me and when i turned around there were like 3 white people standing in the lobby staring at us who quickly looked away.

WTF. is this our future??

are all interactions between black and white people going to be awkward as frick now?

Not for most people. Most normal people will carry on as we have for years

You seem overly sensitive. No telling what she was going through at the moment.

I hope not. My Popeyes order takes long enough as it is.

They've always been like that, you're just now noticing because you can't live denial any more. Welcome to the real world, cracker.

She clearly felt awkward conforming to the gender roles you pushed upon her.

I ate lunch with two black co workers today and we were sitting near a big TV that was showing nothing but CNN and the coverage from last night.
None of us even really looked at the tv or commented on it.
We talked about women, football, and beer mostly.
Just another normal day.

No. Personally, I dont immediately make these correlations between me and other people when I interact with them.

I was picking up some food at lunch. There was a black guy standing outside near me and he said "They need some ceiling fans or something out here".

I replied "yeah... it's hot as frick"

And he said "that's tha truth"

I suppose so for you if you dissect every interaction to this extent.

She probably saw you picking your nose beforehand and didn't want to be anywhere near you.
