Thinking about getting one for a bedroom tv. I assume they only pick up local channels? How about ESPN, TNT, TBS?

use this to see what's available in your area and how strong of antenna you need to pick it up.

Have you seen airbox.com

Just saw the commercial. Seems like a good way to go cable or satellite free

They're only in Houston I think. The internet channel that ex-pats and armed forces members use is ustvnow.com. The free version (non-HD) includes live streaming of all the major networks. There are paid versions that include a lot of the same premium channels as cable. When you sign up, don't say you'll be doing most of your watching in the U.S.

I'm getting 20+ channels in Baton Rouge. Remember that the major channels have multiple subchannels so you will get 2.1, 2.2, 2.3 etc., all with different programming.

To watch HBO and Showtime you have to watch between the squiggly lines and hope you catch a glimpse of the occasional boob.

I have the Mohu Leaf HD as my back up antennae. I live in southeast EBR and it works great. I've also used it for tailgating when I didn't feel like dragging out the Direct TV equipment and dish.

OTA signals are uncompressed and are usually better quality signals than you receive over cable or satellite.

There is no such thing as an HD antenna....an antenna from 1984 will pick up HD channels just like one made in 2014

Most people only need a UHF antenna.

Don't work well at all in our attempted applications. I guess if you live in or near a major city they might be OK.

With a big antenna mounted high, you can pick up stuff from 30-40 miles away, in my experience.

ETA- refer to the link above for how strong of an antenna you need to catch what, if anything.

At one point I could catch ESPN HD through an antenna, but that quit working about 3 years ago

My ex has a $15 that works just as good as a $100 would. She lives in Southdowns though, and gets about 15 channels, all clearly. Also has a Roku 3

This is why you should refer to the link and find the power deemed necessary by the unbiased group to allow you to catch the most channels clearly. Don't by a lavender when a yellow will do. Some are made for long range pickup. Others are made to sit behind the tv. This is a case of only needing what you need, and the "extra power" is just wasted money.
