Hay Ride Crash on Cane Market Road
What.The.Frik.L.P.?
ATV driver was airlifted to the hospital
From WAFB comments:
He was definitely drunk. My neighbor Kim Kim Ribando Forman and I were just talking about how drunk he was when driving down the road in our neighborhood

It happened in the 33,000 block of Cane Market Road near Spring Lake Drive in Livingston Parish. Officials say a four-wheeler was pulling the hay ride trailer with no lights traveling on Cane Market Road when it was struck by a vehicle from behind. The trailer was carrying about 20 kids.

WALKER — A group of children suffered “minor to moderate” injuries Friday evening when a man driving a four-wheeler struck a hayride trailer in Livingston Parish.
Approximately 20 children were on the hayride on Cane Market Road when the off-road vehicle struck the back of the trailer, Louisiana State Police Trooper Jared Sandifer said.
As many as 11 children were transported to area hospitals, Sandifer said.
The driver of the four-wheeler was airlifted to an area hospital with “moderate to severe injuries,” Sandifer said. The driver’s identity has not yet been released.
Terrible. Don't understand why a trailer without proper motor vehicle equipment was allowed to be used in a hayride on a public road.
The report will be interesting.

I wouldn't say the front of the van is totaled. It's certainly severely damaged, I wouldn't classify it as totaled though.

Happened on Cane Market Road--does anyone know if that's a major highway or what the speed limit is there? From the WAFB video, it looks like it's not in a neighborhood and there weren't any street lights.
Hope the kids are all ok.

Whoever made the decision to pull a hay ride using a four wheeler at night with no lights on a public and busy road with possibly no lights too is a fricking moron that should be arrested and thrown in jail.

Hay rides are almost as dangerous as church vans. Both constantly involved in horrible accidents.

It is a state hwy and the speed limit there is probably 50 mph

Something similar at my ER last night. Looked out our front entrance and saw a side by side atv pulling a small trailer with 4 kids around for trick or treating and I told our clerk "that's dangerous...one of those kids could easily fall off and get hurt."
30 min later we have a kid with a busted forehead and face brought in from falling out of a trailer, but it was a different atv/trailer

Yes it is a very long road, and I believe it is 45 mph in most spots, might get up to 55.

Speed limit sign I found on street view is 55mph.
Two lane highway. No lights.

even with no lights, the other car should have seen it with the head lights and ALL tail lights are reflective.
I blame the driver of the suv.
BUT still, yes, the trailer should of had lights, or at least a triangle.

Honestly, it may not have had any sort of light/reflective material on the trailer.
I've been rolling down Hopedale Highway at 0430 and come up on kids on 4-wheelers with no lights and barely able to see them until I was right on them. Shits dark.

look at the crease near the front door, if not totalled it will need frame bending.

Saw the air med flying over that way. Figured it had to be bad. Y'all remember what I said in that thread a couple days ago about drunk rednecks hauling kids in trailers behind their 4 wheelers?
