I did. Left a good job for a start up, promised this and that. Was told the financial situation was strong and that the owner made his bones by treating people the right way, rewarding them, etc.
Well, it couldn't have been further from the truth. The finances were absolutely abismal, attitude around there was terrible. It was like they went out of their way to hire every a-hole and incompetent POS in the city.
On top of that, the owner was a terrible person and treated his people like shite.
I GTFO as soon as I could. They're still around, for now.
You should definitely start looking.
ETA: there was ONE guy there that was intelligent and a decent human being. He's still there, but he could leave no problem anytime he wants.

That's hardcore right there. They probably thought "everything is in order now so we can handle it from here" without realizing they were probably the reason it go to where they were in the first place... And that same mindset is why they are no longer in business.

Yup. Rode out to end and learned my lesson. Next time I thought it might happen, I jumped.

I saw this happen once. The head of the office I was in up and decided to leave and start his own company. Several people left with him. Everyone was worried because they thought he knew something no one else knew, but it ended up being a situation where he saw an opportunity he thought he could benefit from by going on his own.. A little over a year later some of the people who left was calling to see if they had an opening for them...

These types of places must not conduct any market research and have cash on hand to fund these projects. No way a bank is giving them money unless they are putting their house up as collateral.

I went to work for Nortel in about 2005. They were a telecom manufacturer. It lasted about 3 yrs and the ship was sinking when I got there, but they paid me $80k plus commission and a car. It was never stable but they kept restructuring debt. I rode that horse until the end because I was making about $120-$150k a year. A few years later went work for Level 3, (a worldwide Internet and fiber networks provider). They were in a panic from day one...numbers, numbers numbers. I sensed something early on, but the money was too good. I was a victim of a 1,000 employee layoff. It was one of the best days of my life when they let me go.

Yep. Without me prompting my boss told me to hold out for six more months, good things are coming. I put my resume out immediately and within six months my entire division was laid off. Good thing I had another job by then.

I did. VP was throwing me some great bait and I got hooked. The respect level was definitely lopsided.

A buddy got laid off today. he said there were tons of rumors of issues, but management gave the "all is well" speech a couple of weeks ago. 5 percent cut today, apparently, with another 5 percent may be coming soon.
