I have to think they are preparing for massive amount of automation in their stores soon. On the Thanksgiving road trip to see family we stopped in a newly built/remodeled McDonalds to grab a bite and use the restrooms. It appears they want to minimize face to face human interaction as much as possible. They had a ton of the touch screen kiosk's where you place your own order and only had two actual registers. On top of that, nobody was standing at the registers, they were all in the back. And now the kitchen is almost completely closed off from public view. I'm used to seeing the line cooks and the fry machine and people back there but now it's walled off like they don't want you to see back there. It's like they don't want you to see when they start using robots to make your food.

McD’s opened a fully automated restaurant end of last year. They’re preparing for massive layoffs to automate everything possible. This is the ramifications of minimum wage increases

The first robot that tells me the ice cream machine is broke is getting a fist full of magnets thrown at it.

More BS...they can just raise their food another $0.10 like they do every other week anyways to make up for the one time minimum raise hike.

ETA:

The robot thing is just to further their profit margin, not to save it....lets be honest.

They don’t want you to know that they also replaced the meat with the former workers, Soylent green.

Automation at McDonald's would be great. I'm for as much automation as possible.

You think they only starting working on automation technology after the minimum wage raise came about? This has been in the works for decades. Lots of low skill and repetitive skill jobs will be going away.
