How else do you get a free couch for your balcony in college?

Not for myself. When I was in college I helped a couple of guys carry a couch to their apartment.

I picked up a broken chair on the side of the road and fixed it.

Sold it at a consignment store and pocketed 200 bucks for my time.

I've taken a good many second hand pieces of furniture from family, friends, and thrift stores but have yet to garbage dive.

That said, when I put out just about any bulk item on bulk garbage day (any furniture, broken lamp, broken fan, etc), it's usually gone in less than 1 hour.

I don't bother driving it somewhere to donate if it is useable. I know someone will pick it up from the curb if I just stick it out there.

You added too much. There was upvote potential here but you also insinuated that OPs girl can do a good job, which isnt true or he wouldnt be starting threads like these.

I liked it till it got to that part though.

Sure, in my neighborhood its common for people to set out perfectly good stuff because they know someone will snag it within an hour. I got a perfect Ikea Poang chair frame and just bought a new cushion for it. I have the chair in my office. I also got a perfect set of ikea chest of drawers I use for my workout/cycling gear. I've also picked up some vintage metal outdoor "hotel chairs" and an Eames Lounger....well....its a knockoff but even those go for about $1000.

Me and a buddy picked up a 50 inch tv. Took it home but it didn’t work. We promptly brought it back and set it back out.

On a side note. Anyone know if Baton Rouge garbage will haul off a mattress if you put it to the road?

No but we put stuff out on the driveway all the time and it’s usually gone within 2 hours.

There’s always some Mexicans driving around scooping up furniture or anything big. Guessing they sell it

99% of my furniture in college(and a couple years after) was from dumpster diving/driving around and picking stuff up.

No, but I've stolen a giant 55 gal trash can from Alex Box parking lot for our college apartment.
