Removing the gauze is my biggest memory from it as well. I did it myself (they told me to do it after X amount of days) and it took me hours to work up the courage.

I didn’t hurt at all during recovery, so don’t be too afraid. And I was a teenaged girl.

Just take the drugs as prescribed and you’ll be fine. Plus you get to lay around on drugs for a week.

In my early 20's I began having horrific headaches. The pain was so bad that when I got a headache I had to lie down in a blacked-out room with no light or noise. This went on for over a year and it was getting to the point where I would miss far too much work. In any case, I ended up in the ER one evening with such a painful headache that I thought I was about to have a stroke or something. The emergency
The emergency Room doc ordered a CT Scan of my head and an astute Radiation tech noticed something odd in my ethmoid sinus. THe did a round of regular x-rays of my sinuses and one side was totally blocked and full of fluid/snot.
Went to an ENT doc and he scheduled me for surgery. When I woke up I had a plastic splint inside each side of my nose that was wired through the middle. Doc told me I had a benign tumor inside the ethmoid sinus that was the size of a hen's egg and a badly deviated septum. Doc had removed the tumor, fixed the septum, and did a Turbinectomy. I had to lie with my head elevated for two weeks and had to remain in bed the whole time with only trips to the bathroom and an occasional trip to the kitchen for food. The main concern was me moving too much and causing a hemorrhage.

When the doc removed the splint it was painful as hell and when he pulled out the gauze packing, I about passed out from the pain. I don't know how they packed so much gauze into my nose but they did. Once I was fully recovered my headaches were totally gone and I could breathe much better than before. I still have some positional stuffiness but nothing like before. In my case, it was a badly needed surgery and it worked well.

Edited to fix spelling and grammar errors

If you get septoplasty, you ain’t blowing anything out of your nose for at least a week. Nose is filled with packing.

This was true for me also. The doctor placed one hand on my forehead and used hemostats in the other to pull. Each nostril had to pieces that were, at minimum, 3 feet long and it felt like he was pulling my brain out.

This. I had it done this past August had it done in a hospital and went home after about 4 hours. Full anesthesia. No pain but the recovery was tough. I had a 4” stint in each side for a week. No blowing or picking. It was worth it. No snoring unless a lot of alcohol is involved.

It was the worst surgery I've had

same here

was about a week from having the splint removed, tried to get something out of a lower cabinet, banged my nose on the counter top. saw stars for a few minutes.

i thing the worst part was the doctor left one of the stitches in and i had to go back a few weeks later to have it removed. that was pretty painful.

These stories are not what I wanted to hear. Lol. Will take a few months before surgery is an option. But it seems like surgery is in my future. Ughhh.

Had it, they broke my nose to try to fix it, still have it. It was miserable they pack both your nostrils after the procedure. Hellish experience and didn't fix a damn thing. If you didn't know you had one it probably isn't causing you any problems, leave it alone.

Have they done any imaging besides x ray? I had a CT and my septum looked like a fish hook. ENT said about 90-95% blockage in my right nostril. That’s the only reason I had the surgery. He said plenty of people have slightly deviated but mine was extreme. Took a basketball to the face about a year before the surgery and that is probably what caused it.

Oh yes, this as well. Also, since I could actually smell again, that gauze about knocked me down it smelled so bad.

Got sucker-punched by some redneck when I was in college. Put my nose back in place myself. Kinda looks like Owen Wilson's nose.
