I saw that this is supposed to be the hot gift this year. Are they just stuffed animals? I couldn't tell that there was anything special about them.

Luckily I was in Target in late September and saw about 10 people with multiple in their buggies, asked what they were and once I was told I asked where they were. I ended up getting the last one off the shelf, a purple "Draggle". Sure enough when wish lists came out it was on my daughter's list. I felt kind of bad for my SIL, she left Thanksgiving dinner early to go stand in line for four+ hours at Wal-Mart to get one for my niece. I've been in your shoes in recent years for Furbies and other things and it sucks.

This is why we avoid TV shows with commercials.
DVR with fast forward or pre recorded movies for the win. My three year old wants generic, normal stuff like a toy jet and choo choo train.

Not looking forward to the day he wants things I have to search every toys r us on earth for.

Mine is two and is the same way, hope this progression doesn't happen in a year. Of course she doesn't watch much TV and what we do allow is all controlled content through Netflix and such. Daycare through a nanny, so she isn't exposed to that stuff there as well. Probably won't have to worry about that til preschool.

Same. Just supply and demand.

Reviews on Amazon were terrible. Lots of people saying that they don't work worth a shite anyway.

Watched a few videos to see what it was about and it's just a cheap looking Furby knockoff that hatches itself from an egg. Just another fad that will result in the Hatchimal being stuffed in the closet after two weeks.

Yeah we should have bought one months ago. But what we did was tell our 6yr old that Santa didn't have enough elves to make enough Hatchimals for all the kids in the world, so he'd have to wait until after christmas to get one. Instead, we showed him a furby, and he told santa that would work instead. He also added that santa needed to hire more elves to help make more hatchimals.

ETA: for those looking for a replacement, the Furby connect is a pretty cool replacement. It interacts with the owner, and has an iPad app that the kids can use to interact as well. It's the same price roughly as what the hatchimal was prior to gouging.
