Hazelnut clearly didn't read the whole story, no point in trying to reason with him.
Yeah, I admitted that and immediately apologized. But hey, keep on being an a-hole if it makes you feel better.

My view still stands on the death penalty though. It's dumb and there's no reason for it.
Some people just need to die.
And the innocent man he killed wasn't one of them.
He isn't worthy of life and deserves to be "put down like a rabid dog" as he so eloquently stated it.

I posted that before I saw you admit that genius. You should probably just stop while you're only marginally behind.

FWIW, I didn't read the details of the case I just saw someone say he is a murderer and then read that paragraph.
So you decided to come in here and voice your concerns about a topic that you have no knowledge whatsoever on?
I refer you back to Lunchbox's post...

I simply stated he didn't actually kill anyone. I didn't know everyone would freak out. Sorry I didn't have time to read the entire case. Other than that one simple statement (which I apologized for), I didn't really voice my concerns on the case. I did ask why the others didn't get the death penalty, but that was more to prove a point that the death penalty in general is dumb and should be outlawed.

Maybe you should take your own advice (which is good advice) and read before you post.

You really can't help digging that hole, can you?

Damn. This just makes you realize all that has changed in 16 years.

explain to me how removing someone, who apparently has no respect for human life, from this earth is "dumb".

1. Spending life in isolation is a much greater punishment.
2. You take away their chance of rehabilitation. Even if they rehabilitate in a life sentence, it's better than dying with those issues unresolved.
3. It is cheaper.
4. It sends the wrong message. They say killing is wrong and then they go around and do it to their own citizens. Those citizens may be terrible people, but they are citizens.
5. Religious reasons. I believe no man has the authority to condemn a man to death.

You forgot the only one that matters, wrongful conviction. In this case it was open and shut (jury deliberated 15 minutes). Let that motherfricker burn.

It is bullshite the other guys who admitted to the killing didn't get death.
Give them all death. We're overpopulated inside AND outside of prisons. Time to thin the herd.
Empathy? Lol. Where was his empathy when he was committing this heinous crime?

That's one too. And even if you disagree with my 5 points above, there's no denying that the legal system isn't perfect. And it is very possible that the wrong person can be convicted. And imo, the risk of convicting/killing the wrong person is reason enough to abolish the death penalty. Even if it means open and shut cases like this get a life sentence instead of death.

He was given the same option, it would seem.
I tried to read it all with an open mind. I actually agreed with a few of his points (namely, the monetary motivation behind the prison system).
I couldn't finish, though, because this guy doesn't deserve to be heard with the attitude he has. frick this murderer and his plea for empathy. He can't absolve himself by using some technicality. He knows what his intentions were and that his involvement directly lead to the murder of an innocent person. He appears to have zero remorse for any of this. The death penalty was created for people like him.

But a few posts up, you said that a life sentence is worse than death. If you're worried about the wrongly accused, why do you prefer they're given what you consider worse punishment?

What the guy did was pretty awful, and he at least somewhat seems to be in denial about his role in the murder. I do think he is remorseful though, and there's nothing in the letter to say he isn't.
That being said, he doesn't owe the reader or the media outlet an apology... and his apology isn't relevant to the observations he makes in his letter.
It doesn't matter if he was guilty or if he didn't apologize in the letter. The points he was making about the prison industrial complex, the terrible conditions in prison, the racism surrounding the justice system and prison sentencing, the morality of the death penalty, and the slim odds poor black men face growing up are all valid.
