Has political correctness peaked?

A major university president was just forced to resign. I just received my work "holiday" party invite for our Christmas party. Target stores removing gender-based signage so not to offend some. Is there a historical reference of a society collapsing due to PC or a point where PC correctness peaks because everyone is scared to call out the truth?

A part of me wants to say that one day this is all going to backfire, like a rubber band being stretched too far one way.
But as long as the left has the media and Hollywood in their pocket, I am not so sure. The media generally only pours more gas onto the outrage fire and frames the narrative, and makes it appear as if a vast majority of the country agrees with the outrage.

Yeah that's not exactly a sign of the country's downfall, IMO.

As long as white people are around and nominally in charge of shite, PC will prevail. Once we're all gone or marginalized, the other discrete groups will have no qualms about going after each other with the quickness.
