Has binge-watching Netflix series and other shows taken the place of books?

Walking dead, American Horror Story, Game of Thrones, House of cards, etc...

Has binge-watching all these modern shows taken the place of reading books?

Seems like every social event I attend you'll hear a conversation about one of these shows.

Audio books have replaced the radio for road trips.

I would say yes for a lot of people.

There may be some who still read at the same level.

I know I've had a dramatic book reading drop in the last 5 years.

Game of Thrones

The books are so much better.

I generally read much more than I watch TV. I'll binge a show for 2-3 weeks then go back to reading at night for a month.

Books will always be popular as long as there's self absorbed assholes who want to look smart.

Nope. I read pretty much everyday. If you find a subject in which you're genuinely interested, it's an easy habit to form.

Has the number of books/ebooks sold from 2014-2015 been less than the number of books/ebooks from 2004-2005 as a proportion of population?

I don't think reading as dwindled much.

I don't read anymore because I am convinced that no piece of literature will ever top the Left Behind series.

I'll say this, reading is a common habit amongst people I'd consider successful. I had lunch with two CEO's of publicly traded companies last year. They discussed which books they've read and which ones they plan to read in the near future. Hell, one even wrote a book.

Food for thought.

Im still one of those old fogeys that reads the physical copy of literature. OK I'm not really that old because I buy used books off Amazon for like a buck, like this morning when I got A Feast For Crows (Game of thrones book 4) in hardcover for $1. Only real reason why I keep my cable service is to watch hockey...
