I hear that's what Mark Twain has in store for us next.

I saw a guy a couple of weeks ago with one on the river walk between the kidd and the fountains. It was pretty windy. Didn't see him take it over the river but he was flying it pretty high with no problem. Looked to be one of those DJI Phantoms.

I work for a barge line and many of our boats are equipped with drones. They can be used to check tows and search and rescue.

There are several videos on youtube filmed for the barge industry.

I've flown an F-4 over the Mississippi before, don't know what it looked like from behind but it pushes up a pretty big bow wave.

We watched the Baton Rouge Fourth of July fireworks from the Port Allen side of the river last year. Some guy next to us had a drone and flew it up close to the fireworks. I'm not sure how close he got, but it was a really cool perspective.

It doesn't look too difficult, of course you have to deal with Minnesoteans.

Windy and I'm fairly certain the USGS and Port wouldn't appreciate it.

Depends on the drone. For el Cheapo Drone? Not a good idea. For a higher dollar GPS equipped drone? Not too big of a deal.

Re: Swimming the Mississippi River

You can't do that by Southern's campus. Head North up to Angola bend and try it there West to East.
