I came across these video's (not sure how old they are) and it made me realize just how easy it would be for them to clip you. It also made me realize that my old truck started messing up right after I got my oil changed. May have been just a coincidence because it was an older model and kind of sucked but who knows. Has anyone ever had something like this happen to them?

i had taken my old civic to team after it kept overheating

the day before I had changed out the thermostat thinking that would correct the problem

they checked it out and told "its the thermostat, its old"

i still had the box in the backseat, showed it to them and said they one I put in yesterday is old?

he hemmed and hawed and I said put back what you took off and left

I took my car to a service shop because it wasn't starting but radio and a/c worked, etc. The guy at the desk said sometimes there's a communication glitch and all you need to do is keep the ignition turned for about 30 minutes for it to reset itself. He called later saying they tried that and didn't work, so the fix they used put me out of pocket $600.

That was the final straw for me and that vehicle. I took it from the service shop to a dealership to buy a new vehicle. When they tried to start the car for a trade-in inspection, it wouldn't start again. So this dealership called the maker of my vehicle for a diagnostic. They were told the same thing the service center guy told me. My vehicle started right up. So I was out $600 when I didn't need to be and bought a whole new vehicle when I didn't need.

Have not returned to that service center since.

I probably would've had I not google the fix. If your sun/ moonroof will not close, it may just need to be re-initialized. Basically, just tap, then hold the button for 5 seconds. OF course, that is for my Maxima, so other vehicles will have a different set.

I found in the forums that some shops were charging up to $86 to "fix" the sunroof. I guess they call that a 1 hr minimum diagnose and repair for a repair that literally takes 5 seconds.

In my state they require yearly inspection - for a lot of shops they advertise that they do inspection and then find a bunch of nit-picky details that "need to be replaced." Otherwise you can't pass inspection and risk fines, losing insurance, etc... If you don't say yes to them right then and there they will fail you so you can't get a 2nd opinion.

When I first moved here mechanic said my car needed new break lines and a ton of other stuff or I'd fail inspection. Told him no thank you and to just fail my car. Took it to another guy that was recommended by a close friend and he brought me in and showed me that they didn't need to be replaced at all - guy passed my car with no repairs required.

Bring a car in for a simple $250 brake job and the dealer will tell you that you need an additional $500-$1000 worth of work on top of that for your car to be safe to drive again. Those people are scum.

There's a place in Baton Rouge that does this. If you call their bluff they pass the inspection.

brought a vehicle in for a steering knuckle that was knocking. It was a recall, to be changed for free. 3 days later, it's knocking again. I suspect they pumped it with grease to quiet it down for a while. KARMA Service manager died from black mold poisoning a few months later

I Ran out of gas and coasted into a Goodyear parking lot. Put gas in it and the car wouldn't start. I had them look at it since I was there. It cost me 60 dollars to tell me it needed 1100.00 repairs. I told them no thanks and had it towed to someone I trusted. When the car got there, he called me and told me it was running fine. Haven't had a problem since then.

That's an ignorant and bullshite statement. Dealership costs a little more but it's worth every penny. When your vehicle is being attended to by technicians that have every resource imaginable by the manufacturer and their engineers you're much more likely to get it fixed right and, in most cases , the first time. I've run both dealership service depts and independent shops and I assure the knowledge that a dealer tech has about your vehicle compared to an independent is vastly different.

The dealership charges $533 for my vehicle's radiator. Autozone charges $150 for the same. Bought on Ebay for $55 little over a year ago. Put it on myself. took about 20 minutes. The only thing wrong with it was an o-ring(can't buy separately)

MIL just payed $500 to replace an ignition cool on a Toyota Sienna that was on the front bank. Charged her 2.5 hours labor and there is no possibly way it took more than a few min to change and diagnostic time was minimal.
