I received an "Happy Sys Admin day" email......from Spiceworks
I don't care if I receive anything today. My coworkers are really awesome to work along side. I have never felt overlooked or under-appreciated.

Only engineer in a business meeting
I'm sure it's been posted before but this is how I feel in Every. Single. Meeting.

I find this to be an extremely thankless job, and yes I understand that comes with the territory.
No one ever stops by or emails to say, "Hey the computers are running great!"

Most of the time no one even knows the IT folks even work at the company. Until the shite hits the fan and something on the network goes down.

I don't remember the last time I had a problem on the network and it wasn't caused by a moron user

one time i accidentally filled up the C: drive on an exchange box with updates early one saturday morning. i did a restore and accidentally selected one of the DB drives along with the C: and lost email for about 1500 people. 2 TB of data. Figured out my booboo and then restored and started the remount process that takes several hours for each database. I told my boss it was my fault. He was fine, just said fix it. Late Sunday night everything was back in order. Boss emailed everybody that i was the one who spent all weekend to fix it and it was my work that "saved the day."
I had cookies and a sonic giftcard on my desk monday morning when i got in and the superintendent walked down to thank me and give me monday afternoon off.
so the greatest appreciation i ever got was when i fixed something i, myself fubarred.
