Hasn't Leary been around a whole lot longer then CK?
Yes...which was explained as CK told the story.
CK was just starting out in Boston...about 19 or so. Leary was big in Boston by then, and he was nice to CK and even had him open for him some.
CK explains that his finishing bit at the time was about how great it would be to just give in and really be an a-hole. Cut people off in traffic, park in handicapped spaces, etc. Not even pretend to give a shite and really embrace it. One night Leary was actually in the room as CK finished and he came up to CK afterwards and told him how much he liked that bit specifically, and then began riffing on it right in front of him. Couple weeks later CK rolls into a club and Leary is on stage DOING his bit. The way CK tells it he was young, really had no idea what to do about it and he had been doing it for a while so he just let it go.
Then Leary essentially turns the bit into what makes him a household name.
Not hard to believe at all. Not just because Leary seems like a dick, but because several comedians have been accused over the years of lifting CK's material since he's considered a real comedian's comedian. Plus, he written on a bunch of shows...so he's always had good material.

personally, I've never found CK worth a shite either.
No accounting for taste.

It's a cutthroat business. No doubt about it.

Love that flick.
Kid: This money got blood on it.
Leary: you ever see any that didn't?

The Ref was pretty good, too.
But motherfricker, Ford seriously needs to realize that Leary's "edgy" voice doesn't make me want to buy their truck. Really, really sick of hearing it.

His schtick got tired quick
no ill will but it would be fitting if he died of lung cancer

I can think of a dozen other reasons I wouldn't buy a Ford. But yes, they have over utilized DL in their commercials.
