That was brutal, and unfortunate, but there is no doubt it was a good shoot. I feel terrible for all involved.

Police should be pushing for these body cameras. Nips false accusations in the bud.

Anyone want to bet that when officers are at fault these cameras will magically malfunction?

They're imperfect to begin with. Battery life isn't great, so they must be used sparingly. And in many emergent situations, it's difficult to stop and think to turn it on. Dash cams alleviate this some by being always on, but the cars don't always make it to the scene of the crime.

Hypothetical- It would be hard to fault an officer who pulled someone over that stopped and ran for not putting his body camera on and turning it on.

They're also breakable.

ETA- I'm in no way against their use. Relying on them for every scenario would just be a bad idea, in my very humble opinion.

My question is....if this thug had just robbed me at gun point and I chase him and shoot him in the back like the officer did, I would be charged with a crime because the threat no longer existed. Why is it different for the police?

That was intense, had my heart beating rapidly since I knew what was coming.

Maybe if he had his pants pulled up he could have run faster.

Not too bright of a young man. Drops his gun with a cop chasing him and stops to pick it up.

Like with NOPD here recently where the cameras were somehow turned off.
