Hammond Court sold my court debt for 10+ year old unsettled matter

Is that legit? Roughly 10 years ago my friends got into a bar fight at Extra's and I was in the wrong place at the wrong time. Got hit with refusing to leave and disturbing the peace. Never went to court for it because there was no bond or anything like that and I felt it was bullshite. Didn't hear about it for over 10 years until now when I get a $600 bill from AMS (American Municipal Services). Isn't the statute of limitations up? If unpaid, can this go on my credit report? Smells like bullshite

This is a very complicated case Maude. You know, a lotta ins, a lotta outs, lotta what-have-yous

If you acknowledge the debt, the statute of limitations resets. Never acknowledge. Ask for everything to be mailed to you (in writing). Continue to ignore it.
There's an entire industry of folks who buy old bad debt at pennies on the dollars (or less) in the hopes of collecting just a small bit here and there.
That said, I'm no lawyer.

You should pay your bills
But it does sound like BS, I don't think they can affect your credit for a debt that old.

Lot of stuff Here on collections in general, not sure about court debt though there may be something there.

Well that's all that really matters, no?

Baw, I don't need to drive a damn uber to come up with $600. You are missing the point here
Good info from a couple of you, and I appreciate it

If you weren't involved in at least one bar fight in college you should have to go back and do college again because you certainly didn't do it right the first time.

I don't think there is a statute of limitations once you are charged and fail to appear. I could be wrong.
I was getting a back ground check two years ago and got denied because I had an outstanding attachment from 1999 in EBR parish for a failure to appear on a "disturbing the peace" after a house party. It was 15 years old. I had to go to EBR court, and they set a court date 10 months later.
Then when I went back they just dismissed the case.
Such a waste of time. Didn't sell any debt though.

Of course not, but I knew since I didn't have to get bailed out by a bondsman they wouldn't come looking for me. I never really made it out to Hammond or Tangipahoa anyway so I wasn't worried about it. There is a statute of limitations for shite like this. It has long been expired for my alleged infractions.

there is no such thing as statute of limitations for court debt.

I've passed 3-4 background checks with this apparently outstanding. I told myself it got washed away during Katrina

i was never proven guilty. does that not matter? I am assumed guilty and the fines sent to collection. Doesn't make much sense to me
