Gym etiquette

Here's the situation:

Guy is doing this workout that's squats followed by leg curls and leg raises, a set of each back to back. Problem is, the squat rack is in a separate room than the machines so he's back and forth.

While this guy is on the machines, an old guy comes into the free weights room and gets into the squat rack and starts working out. Then younger guy comes back in from the machines area and says "Hey I was still using that." And basically throws his old guy out of the squat rack. (The old guy, I shite you not, said "you doing some curls over here or something." )

What is the proper etiquette here? To me, it's not right to just claim half the gym for thirty minutes while you work out. But then again I kind of see the younger guy's side of it too because the old guy wasn't really about them gains.

if the gym is crowded, stick to one equip ata time.

if not, sure go for your supersets.

If you do and lose the squat rack, you didnt have enough weight on there for anyone to realize it was occupied....weakling.

Part of using a public gym is understanding that other people will want to use it, too. If you want an entire gym to yourself, buy your own. The proper thing to do would be to ask if the old dude minded if he hopped in when he needed to and shared the space.

Proper etiquette would be to let the old man finish or to ask if he minded letting you get a set in while he takes a break between his sets

Circuit training is bullshite in a crowded gym. Add to that the guy is using up two rooms.

If you wanna circuit train then you need to know your gym and drag your arse out there at the shitty times when it's empty.

Had a woman try to bump me off the cable crossover machine once. I am still bitter. This was a fricking Tuesday evening at 6pm. Bitch was crazy. I moved on but DID blow a cloud of arse all over that vicinity before leaving. Protein shake arse too.

No super setting on equipment that is scarce. That's my rule anyway. Once you leave the equipment its fair game.

Fortunately the gym I go to has 8 squat racks. So if there is someone curling in one I don't get all that upset like I used to when it would happen at the gym I went to in Seattle that only had 2 squat racks.

It really puts you in a shitty situation because of course you're going to be polite and say sure buddy take the machine, even though they're probably the one in the wrong.

I just do all my curls in the squat rack. It drives the ladies insane.

In Seattle there was this girl doing fricking burpees and box jumps in one of the squat racks while doing super sets of various crossfit garbage. So when she went to do something away from the squat rack I moved the box and set up to squat. She comes back and gets all mad and I said "You can basically do box jumps and burpees anywhere in this gym, no need to do it in a squat rack" and she said she picked that spot because of what was on the TV above the squat rack. Anyway I didn't budge.

I watched the squat rack for a good 20 minutes while I was on the treadmill because that morning I walked 20 minutes on the treadmill before squatting

I get in the rack and some girl said she had reserved it and I said "There was no one there for 20 minutes so its mine now" anyway she gets her boyfriend to come white knight for her. He had some size but he was also a fat arse. Think of a meat head type, but with really high body fat %.

His exact words: "I believe my girlfriend laid stake to this weight rack first" in a really stern and serious tone

I told him no one was at it for 20 minutes and he said since her foam roller was leaned up against it that meant she had laid claim to it. I said yeah if she used her foam roller to lay claim and came back a minute later thats one thing but she was absent for 20 minutes. I didn't budge and he said

"I believe you didn't hear what I said. My girlfriend has claim on this squat rack"

I then said "What are you going to do, kick my arse and then get banned from this gym?"

Then he said "Are you testing me?" and I said "Correct".

He then looked at his girlfriend and they went off to the stretching area. Meathead types like that are all talk and no walk

If you drop your dead lifts you are a pussy. Period. If you can't set your dead lift down slowly its too heavy for you. Dead lifting is two parts - the ascent and the descent. Too many people think the ascent is the only part of deadlifting - wrong. The descent is the 2nd half of it and just as important as the ascent.

The other night at my gym there were these kids doing deadlifts with regular weights even though the gym has rubber weights specifically for dead lifting. And of course they dropped it to the floor, which was really loud, after every rep. Finally one of them dropped it too hard and one of the 45 pound weights cracked in half.

Even worse, when they were done, they just left the bar there and the weights on it without even racking it, with that cracked in half 45 pound weight just lying there as well. This is why I hate teenagers who come in to lift, they do shite like that. There should be a rule - if you get caught not racking your weights you get banned from the gym.

Go to the locker room, find which locker he is using and throw all his shite on the floor.
