The other day in class I overhead several senior girls talking about their boyfriends not being able to come to home coming with them. When I asked why they couldn't they told me it was because they were too old.

One was 18 and she said her boyfriend was 20. One was 18 and said her boyfriend was 24 but they had been dating since she was 16. A third was also in a relationship with some 20 plus year old and I believe she is 17.

Mind you these are girls from middle class 2 parent families.

I know many schools have also had problems with keeping older boyfriends off of campus trying to pick up girlfriend during the day. One case was a freshman girl who was in a relationship with a freshman college boy which ended in the school banning the boy from campus.

Personally I don't get it. I still cringe when I hear these kids saying things like "hubby" and my "mother-in-law".

I mean I know younger girls dating up isn't a new thing, but it just seems like I have never seen it so abundantly, so open, or so accepted by people.

I mean is this just a Cenla thing or a growing trend overall.

ETA: These are high school girls are am referring to.

My wife was a few weeks shy of turning 19 when her and I got together. I was 25. 6 years later it seems to still be working

Scary to hear as a parent. Legally, it depends by State. I believe the age here is 16.

But was she in high school?

I mean i'm not trying to be judgmental by any means, but I just can't imagine a scenario where I would be okay with my high schooled age daughter dating an adult.

I could see if they were dating and he was a year older and went off to college, but that is not always the case in a lot of these situations.

Not many 19 year olds in high school where I'm from

What if it was a kid that grew up next door to you and yall had known each other for several years? I've seen that happen.

This is nothing new. Girls mature mentally must faster than boys. As much as people don't want to admit it, it is biological.

The whole attract the best mate thing.

I was 24 dating a girl 17... She was a freshman at LSU... Her parents loved me...

Thing was, I looked a lot younger at the time... People use to think I was 18...

I get that, but I just don't remember a time where literal high school girls were dating 20 plus men and their parents were all on board.

Both of us are from two parent homes, middle class. Class has nothing to do it. You are attracted to who you are attracted to.

If I'm a parent 16 dating a 20+ year old guy, we will probably have problems. When there around 18 though, what the difference if they're in high school or college? You can be 18 in college, date a junior or senior that anywhere from 21-23, but if your 18 in high school you can't.
