Every time our office goes to a high end steakhouse, every single one of the black employees (and it doesn't matter if they are a low or high level employee) orders theirs Well Done. Some asked that it be butterflied as well. And we aren't talking Sizzler stakes, try Ruth's or Morton's or Doris Metropolitan.
Yes, this is the stereotype of black people. When I go steakhouses and order a steak medium, I get the same reaction everytime. They say "You know medium is dark pink and slightly warm in the inside right" or some variation of that. And I say, yes I do know that.

Assuming its at a place like Flemings or Ruth, why burn a quality piece of meat like that?

I'll never forget the group of [white] parents and kids (~30 people.. filled our whole restaurant)..
Dad and son come in while I'm sweeping the floor for the night. Ask what time we close and I say 9. Looks at his watch (it is 9) and says "Oh okay" and sits down. Whatever. No biggie. Still lots of sidework to be done. I tell the girl who will be waiting on them that they're here.
They tell her they're waiting on some people. 20 minutes later THIRTY people show up. They take up a big portion of the restaurant. I am totally shocked.
They know what they're doing, you can tell, and they're really nice.. but they don't care that they're doing this. Their food comes out at 9:45. 45 minutes after we have been technically closed.
One person's order was a misunderstanding (she wanted to split a whole poboy with the person next to her, not the half.. which was confusing since that person had their own entree). I explain that the kitchen turned everything off when their food finished. They are boiling out, which means the fryer can't be used. Woman is so mad. I give her soup because it is all I have. I explain to her that I am taking care of this instead of her server because her server is 18, in college at LSU, and has three final exams in the morning and we closed an hour ago.
Woman felt bad, and honestly, I didn't care that I made her feel guilty. I was trying to be nice and serve the man who came in at closing time. I had no idea he was bringing in 30 people, especially when he specifically asked me when we close.

I don't have to try very hard. I'm not making an argument, just posting direct quotes from you.
Look,i like you as a poster so i'm sorry i'm being difficult to you. You just won't admit you look for racial inequality from servers as you already stated you do.
Just admit it and i'll leave you alone

One thing I am always conscious about and it drive the fiance nuts. If we cant get there well before they close I wont go. And I will bug her about getting out of the house on time.
Drives me insane when people have a horrible concept of time and little self awareness.

To be fair, most better steakhouses ask or tell everyone that. I get that all the time at those places (Med Rare) and I'm white as can be.

I'm guilty of this.
If you're on the road, working and get off of work at like 9:50, what are my options? Most servers are rollaly pissed, but I'm hungry and tip well. Is what it is.

Found the Big Bear Brewing Company menu. Their prices are kind of on par with a Chilis. How on earth do you ring up a $350 bill, even with drinks?
From the article
quote:I'm assuming their group was 13 not 4.
A group of four began making a scene, along with about nine others began making a scene around 7:30 p.m.
The article also stated more arrests could be made.

Great thread and I'm sure all tip threads eventually end up this way, but I have two things to say.
You can't bitch about tipping someone unless you've been on the other end.
And if you're bitching about getting tipped, get out of the business if you're not willing to take the ebbs and flows of it.

I used to get off at 4AM.. when no restaurants were open. It was IHOP, fast food, or going to WalMart and getting a pizza or something.
FWIW, shite happens. People coming in 10 minutes before close sucks, but it never really upset me very much.. as I never made important plans after work.
But I would still never do it.

No McDonald's in the middle of no where and you don't have a car or a taxi company to call.
I try to explain but most are really pissed off. If you don't like it, find a different line of work.*
*spit on my food if you want, I'm polite and just looking for service. Do your job and serve me.
