I live in Asheville and get to Greenville from time to time. Great downtown, pro hockey, class A pro baseball, plays, concerts.
Never been downtown Spartanburg.

Greenville is awesome.
Spartanburg is slightly less awful than described here. Slightly.
Clemson is absolutely packed with talent and was a really fun gameday even when Bowden was there. Its probably much better the last couple of years.

There is not an HBCU in Spartanburg. Greenville is the nicer of the two, but I don't think Spartanburg is that bad.

Sorry. You are right. SC State is in Orangeburg.

As said, Greenville is the place for a single guy in his 30's.
Spartanburg is a good town but more geared to young families than young singles.
I know many people who live in Greenville but commute to Spartanburg for work. It's 20 miles up I-85.

My company has a facility there. It's a neat place. Nothing super fancy. Don't know anything about that age group.

I'm in my early 30's and lived there last year and enjoyed my time there. I would hike just about every weekend and spend my Friday and Saturdays in Asheville which is about an hour in some change away. Downtown Greenville has some really nice restaurants and bars that will not break the bank. If I did it all over again I would live downtown not off of Pelham Rd.
There is a town called Travelers Rest which is about 10 miles north of Downtown Greenville, here you can find some pretty good home brew taprooms. You can bike there on the Swamp Rabbit Trail, just watch out for clowns.

Went to Greenville a few weeks ago for the first time for a wedding. Great downtown. Airport was small but they were doing some extensive renovations. Asked a local and they said they've been renovating airport for years. Haha. Uber to downtown was only around $15.

I spent a few days there just in the last 6 months and as a single guy in my early 30's would not look forward to moving there at all. Only positive would be that you could make weekend get-always up the eastern seaboard I suppose
