Green Light a Vet

quote:

Change one light to green in a visible location-on your porch, in your home, or at your office-and keep it glowing every day as a symbol of appreciation and support for our veterans. Then, share your support by taking a picture of your green light and posting it using the hashtag #greenlightavet.

quote:

WHAT IS GREENLIGHT A VET?
America’s veterans are some of our nation’s bravest, hardest-working men and women. However, it’s hard to show them the appreciation they deserve when, back home and out of uniform, they’re more camouflaged than ever. Greenlight A Vet is a campaign to establish visible national support for our veterans by changing one light to green.

+1

If you really want to help a veteran then donate some time or money to a veterans organization... or call your elected officials and tell them to do something about the shitty arse VA healthcare system.

I'm a vet. I'd rather see someone spend the money that they would have spent on a green bulb and donate it to the Wounded Warrior Project. I know it would only be like a buck but at least it would be doing someone some good.

Who on earth came up with this horrific idea?

How about "put a little American flag on your mailbox" or something reasonable? Is there some green light manufacturer out there who thinks this is going to be their big ticket to riches?

This is probably pretty accurate with their charity rating.

I'll keep giving to vet organizations that are in the 90% for going to cause and don't sue other charities with the same cause.

I'm sorry, this is just a bold faced PR move. I've been lucky enough to meet quite a few vets and I've never met one who had any desire to be "recognized." This is just the latest in guilt pressure but this time, they're using it to drive sales. I've been waiting for something like this to happen since they remodeled the parking lot at our grocery store. The first 20 spaces of the parking lot are reserved now for handicap, veterans, mothers, elderly, but before any of that, the reserved for pickup.

Same here. As a veteran, things like this actually bother me. People do stuff like this to make themselves feel better. All the while we have Vets who suffer from debilitating PTSD and other injuries that can't get the treatment and care they need.

These movements are meant for the people participating to feel good about themselves without really having to do anything.

Walmart PR idea...

increase sales on green light bulbs by making it about the "Vets" all while gaining profit and good will.
