Basically when Genghis Khan wrecked shite throughout Eurasia. As far as lasting effects, it may equal or surpass the two world wars. Without Genghis Khan, Islam is not crippled, and takes over the rest of Europe. And China remains the Eastern power up to this day. The world would look completely different if not for that band of nomadic badasses storming out of Mongolia.

How were World War 1 and 2 good?
World War 1 was a European War until Britain dragged the United States into it, to complete the Balfour Declaration and establish Israel. The United States had no business being involved but jumped in because they could not pass up the chance to establish Israel.
World War 2 was a disaster. We allied with the wrong country. We should have fought Stalin and the Bolesheviks, but instead we teamed up with the evil murdering Tyrant Stalin to take on the Axis Powers. Stalin and the Bolesheviks were way worse than Nazi Germany. We basically sent American lives to go die for Stalin.

The nearly a hundred year long Three Kingdoms wars in China resulted in nearly the deaths of WW2 (though to be fair over a muuuuch longer period). Still it is a very interesting topic for people interested in history but light on Asian history to read in to.
Thirty years war is unique because a central cause was the splintering of the Lutherans from the Catholics and it's the first Catholic v Protestant skirmish.
100 years war is a favorite of mine too. (I just can't imagine nearly five generations of the same war)
