I thought it seemed a bit high to me, but I'm not familiar with having an entire system installed to a 60 year old house. For some reason I thought some companies offer free installation with certain contracts.

Didn't think it would be $3,000 regardless

Any recommendations for companies in the Hammond area?

That's way too much.

Call ADT and haggle... Get the bare minimum

Ours was way cheaper but our house was built with the wiring run already IIRC.

Simplisafe wireless and do it yourself in 10 min. I have been using it for years. Works great and cheep monitoring with iPhone control if wanted.

That seems high. I have ADT in a relatively high-cost area (just over $400K for my house, which is the 3rd cheapest in a neighborhood that goes up to about $750K) and I spent $1700ish upfront (though they undercharged me by $410 and I can't convince them of this) and I have 24 zones on three levels, four cameras (2 indoor, 2 outdoor) two motion detectors, and a motion activated light. And I can control it all and view my camera feeds from my computers (home or work) and smartphone. And the equipment is warrantied by five years. Monthly rate is $56 and change. Would be $47.50 without the warranty.

Should add that the house was already pre-wired with the Brinks system it came with, but my system is wireless, so they only gave me a token credit when they took out all the old gear. And they installed and set up everything, which is one of the main reasons I chose them over a local company offering a better deal that would have simply mailed me all the equipment.

That is insane pricing. Check out Frontpoint security. Rated #1 when I installed it a few years back and extremely easy to setup.

The monthly charge is good. The installation is more than double what it should be.

depends on what he is trying to secure. doors are cheap/easy

if you talk about securing all the windows, installing glass breaks, etc, you're going to pay significantly more

That is not reasonable at all. We got ADT to put in a system on my mom's house, my brother's house and 3 sheds on our farm. We got cameras, motion sensor, and the whole 9 yards and I think the installation cost was ~$1500.

Seems expensive, but that's a lot of points. I would think that wireless transmitters wouldn't cost that much.

3,000 seems high. Insurance may drop enough to help with that monthly payment.
