Has anyone here done a Grand Canyon helicopter tour out of Las Vegas? Recommendations? Worth the expense? Wasn't looking to spend the money since 3 goddamned "O" tickets cost nearly $700 on top of the other expenses, but seems like this might be one of those "once in a lifetime" experiences that isn't worth passing up with the family. I'm on a fixed income ya know...

I did. Used company called Maverick. It was fantastic. We did it in the afternoon and came back to Vegas strip at night when it was all lit up. Great experience all around and I highly recommend.

I did it years ago. Would recommend. I don't recall price or name of company.
Sorry that's all I've got

We used Maverick as well.
Leave Vegas, fly over Hoover Dam, Lake Mead, and into the Canyon.

We made our return flight after dark above the Strip.

We had a wedding party (two helicopters) and it was $300 per person.

I'd pay the $300 again in a heartbeat.

Yeah Maverick's the main company. Oh and you got ripped off on those O tickets.

Yes, it is one of those once in a lifetime experiences you should not miss. 3.5-4 hour tours can be found for under $250. That isn't expensive for Las Vegas entertainment.

I learned from the aviation thread last week that those guys make $30k a year. No thanks.

I think some new flight restrictions were put in place a few years back after one too many flight seeing helicopter flew into the canyon wall. Not sure what the hard deck is now, but I don't think they can fly "into" the canyon.

I flew into the canyon a little over four years ago with Maverick.

Our landing areas were about half way down into the Canyon.

I'm not sure when the rules changed though.

Sundance Helicopters

Tell them you want their "September Twentieth" Special.

ETA: Actually, tell them that we all here want you to have their "September Twentieth" Special.

Might just be in the NPS managed area. The Indians do pretty much whatever they want to do on their reservations.

Flew with Macerick Helicopter Tours in December. Flew from LV to the Grand Canton, had lunch, then did the helicopter tour. Definitely worth it. Bucket List type thing to do. bout $550 per person.

FWIW, O is worth the money, but we saw Michael Jacksons One at Mandalay Bay and it was awesome as well.

Maverick will fly you into the canyon, but no, you can't get below about 1500' I think. Only way you can do that is if you take the tour that lands you in the Canyon (grand canyon discovery tour from the West rim). I did the Canyon Dream tour. worth every penny.

you can also take the "tribal spirit" tour that takes you to the Sky Walk.

Sky Walk

Tourist trap that the Natives have to rip off people.

You have to lock up all your belongings while on the walk and only pictures you can get...are ones you buy from them. From what I was told by those that went...there is no place besides the walk to walk around and see the canyon from. It's in the middle of nowhere and they charge like $100 to go on the walk.
