I am finishing up my third year teaching in a few weeks and I just don't understand why so many teachers bitch. Yes we have to make quizzes, tests, projects, grade papers, etc., but if you get to school early in the morning and make good use of your one or two planning periods, then you rarely should have to bring stuff home with you during the week or over a weekend.

Considering all the time off we have; like nights, weekends, holidays, summers, I just don't understand why so many teachers bitch. Maybe it's the old teachers who don't use their time wisely throughout the school day.

I teach and I agree. The ones who say we are underpaid are absurd. You can take a summer job if you want or do additional things like coach during the school year. We have a retainment rate of over 97% nationally. What other jobs have this? There are negatives, but not enough to bitch at all.I am finishing up my fourth year now and it has not been bad. I coach year-round and know if I just was a teacher, it would be an easy job.

I have to avoid our teachers lounge because of all the 40 year old and older women who are there whining, complaining, and bitching about something new almost every day. It's miserable being around them but that's where one of our copy machines is and each teachers mailbox.

Not every teacher has the exact same job. Some have more kids to teach, less planning periods, etc. People like to get mad when teachers complain, but teachers do a lot of shite that I would never do. Teachers are a very important resource for all of us at multiple times of our lives, and I'll give them the benefit of the doubt

Yeah, every year is "the worst group of kids" these old women have ever seen.

3 down votes on my OP?? Must be those old teachers who rather bitch and complain about how teaching "use to be in their day", rather than be productive and make good use of their planning periods throughout the day.

I see your point but I teach at a high school with 2,200 students and I personally teach 175. I have six classes and two planning periods and I rarely brought stuff home with me during the week or over a weekend. Granted, I got to school 45 minutes early every morning and stayed in my room during both planning periods to get shite done instead of going to socialize and bullshite around campus.

I teach advanced math to almost all seniors. Out of my 175 students, I think 5-8 students didn't pass my class, so they are taking some online bullshite math class so they can graduate or something.

Just going off your username, are you at Ponchatoula High? I did a semester there for one of my education classes at SLU. My supervisor teacher was Brisset. I think that was his name.

Since I teach almost all seniors and today was their last day, my grades had to be finalized this evening. Starting tomorrow I just go up to school and help with setting up graduation stuff and handing out caps and gowns, etc. I have a few juniors left in each class but they are sent to help out around the school, like in the office, student services, ISSP, library, etc.

Jac- I have to call BS on you unless your a P.E. teacher or elective teacher. I am a chemistry teacher and to properly teach 175 kids a day with arriving 45 minutes early and 1.5 hour of prep a day means you average less than 70 second a day per studnet grading a student work, and entering grades. Then you have to plan the lessons, then lesson plan for the school. Once a week at least you have pd. I am not complaining but I do about 1 hr a day outside the classroom on stuff
