I live in old Goodwood and this will be great. Coupled with the street modifications our neighborhood is implementing with EBR traffic division it will make our neighborhood much more pedestrian friendly and cut down on the amount of cars cutting through the neighborhood from Florida to get to Jefferson and Town Center.

Would love to see this done to Highland from campus to Perkins. But more feasible, A dedicated bike/jog Lane would make lots of people happy but not sure how to pay for it. The 6ft for path is there.

They did studies that show this will make the traffic flow better. I guess people don't read.

Any type of traffic improvement is immediately met with disgust on this board. I don't really get it.

would be awesome if they used this same design for highland but getting the money to buy that land would be tough

The majority of Louisianans are programmed to live on arse backwards city planning.

Didn't they just spend a bunch of money improving the surface of govt street?

Nope. That was Florida Blvd.

Should be two lanes with a tree lined walking/bicycle path down the middle.
so how do you take a left into all the businesses, shops, and stores lining each side of government with a median and pedestrians in the middle of the street?

Here is the power point.

Turning several streets into one ways, like Audubon and Keed. More speed humps and making several streets that connect to Florida no right turns off of Florida into the Neighborhood.

I'd be disappointed if they don't include parallel parking spaces and change the foolish rules for the businesses in the area that requires extensive parking off the street. If they can pull that off, they'll only need left turn lanes at major intersections and really change the format of the street.

A row of parked cars also encourages pedestrian activity more than a bike lane and calms traffic. It's more of a barrier between people walking on the sidewalk and the traffic in the street. I think they can fit street parking and bike lanes if they didn't need a center turn lane.

It'll get interesting when people coming from both directions are trying to use the same part of the turn lane.
it's just like the two way left turn lane death traps down Essen, Perkins, College, etc. where we're always hearing about those head-on collisi...oh wait...

Also rumored in the plan to remake Government St is that the intersection at Lobdell, Government and Independence will be converted into a "round about".

Awesome news.

Now, they need to do the same thing with Lee Drive. Of course, the Southdowns BANANAs will fight to the death any improvement like to their neighborhood.

Respectively, a turning lane on lee after Perkins too just past lee high. Also a turning lane down all of highland plus a bike/running trail would pretty sweet.
