"Hate crimes" are unconstitutional FWIW.

Why do some blatant murders have to be categorized as worse than others?

All murder is a "hate" crime (with a few exceptions like defense)

More severe penalties under a police state.

I thought they were trying to reduce the prison population. If every crime is to eventually be labeled a hate crime, we will have to start building prisons every 10 miles.

Hate crime should be abolished. Crime is crime, regardless of the perp's feelings.

As a middle class, educated, Christian, white male, what's the stock market symbol for prison companies?

Just like most other hate statutes, they will never enforce them unless it racially charged.

So when an undercover cop grabs some underage drinker and he shoves him away (without knowing he's a cop), and they throw in the battering a police officer charge, is that going to be a hate crime as well?

Except self defense isn't murder.

FWIW, hate crimes criminalize thought and all of them are bull$hit.

Of course. And that will be on top of the assaulting a police officer and resisting arrest charges. By the time they're done racking everything on, the kid will be facing life.

Good question. I know for a fact if you gently teep a drunk off duty cop at the south downs parade who's threatening you, they charge you with assaulting a police officer.

Make no mistake about it, this law will get abused at some point.

Lot of dummies in here.

There's a difference between assaulting someone who happens to be black/gay/white/asian, etc... and assaulting someone because they are. The latter is worse.

Seems like this type of law will make people even more leery of interacting with police.
