Every year on April 1st, Google unveils several completely fake tech products to make us laugh on April Fools Day. This year, it introduced a hilarious “Mic Drop” feature in Gmail. Unfortunately, because the feature is built into Gmail and not all people pay attention to tiny user interface changes, this email addition actually cost some people their jobs. Consequently, Google pulled the prank to make sure other don’t suffer the same consequences.

This didn't happen.

Also, that email is a fake.

Giant multinational companies really shouldn't be trying to pull April Fool's pranks, especially when the prank has to do with the user interface of your product which millions of people use.

Who could not have foreseen the unintended consequences when you have millions of users?

Whoever gave this idea the green light is an idiot.

I had the mic drop thing pop up on me when I was sending some work-related emails last night. Luckily, I was paying attention.

Do you really think that when billions of emails are being sent, there won't be some adverse side effects?

Not saying those particular cases are genuine, but I guarantee you this thing screwed some things up for people.

"Thanks to Mic Drop I just lost my job. I am a writer and had a deadline to meet. I sent my articles to my boss and never heard back from her. I inadvertently sent the email using the "Mic Drop" send button. There were corrections that needed to be made on my articles and I never received her replies.

I'm not trying to call you out or anything, I just highly doubt that someone was fired over this already.

As for the email in the OP, I found Walker Funeral Homes and searched their directory and that Jonathan Anderson fella doesn't work there nor is the front end of his email in the format that Walker Funeral Homes uses.

You do understand when you accidentally use the drop the mic reply, it mutes the entire email and doesn't show you replies from that person from then on?

The writer that claims to lost his job said his boss was replying to his emails and he didn't get them, ignoring them and got canned for missing a deadline.

Yes, I do. I also find it a bit weird to see a company who is lazy enough to use Gmail for their business emails to be strict enough to fire you within the last 12 hours.
