I have an HP shoulder bag and the strap is beginning to fray... Also, it doesn't have the space I need because it's compartmentalized inefficiently.

I have to carry the following:
1 - Surface Pro
1 - Power cord for PC
1 - Projector (4"x4")
1 - Power cord for projector
1 - HDMI-to-DispleyPort cable
1 - Bluetooth Mouse
1 - Traditional-sized calculator
Misc - Documents/Pad folio/folders, Pens, Gum, Tide Stick, Business Cards

This is the bag I currently have:

It has 1x split padded laptop pocket, 1x folder/document pocket, 1x (another?) Laptop pocket in the middle. 1x misc. pocket for pens, gum, cards, etc, 1x small front pocket.

Looking for something in maybe a distressed light-brown leather?

Go.

I've used a Swissgear backpack with a built in laptop case for about 7 years now. Not sure how it would handle the projector though. I'm guessing you want something more professional looking than a backpack?

Why do carry a PC power cord with a surface?

Correct... I found a fantastic backpack from NF, "The Router" and it had pockets on pockets, but I couldn't justify spending money on something I couldn't use everyday...

And I wear a suit so I can't be slinging a backpack

I travel and a charge won't last all day, into the night, and then the next day...

Ah, yeah that wouldn't work then. I'm just a lowly IT guy in chinos and a golf jacket

I have that Filson and the Saddleback. I use both. Thoughts:

Filson

Pros: Versatile, looks good in most settings, durable, decently well organized, enough space, less rigidity means more weird sized stuff can fit

Cons: Not as durable as Saddleback, strap isn't the most comfortable, exterior pockets too loose for strange shaped items, less rigidity means it's sometimes a pain to carry or sit down places.

Overall: It's a good bag, gets complimented a lot. Have owned for more than a year (maybe 2?) and still looks newish. Biggest overall complaint is the top opening. It's fine, but it's sometimes cumbersome to cram stuff into or get stuff out of because it's less rigid and the zipper will always be in the way.

Saddleback

Pros: Looks great, will last forever, holds tons of shite, every dude like us seems to want one, rigid, nice top opening.

Con: Heavy as shite, sometimes too big for intended purpose, not as versatile, closure system is not as easy as Filson

Overall: It's a great bag I'll own forever. I use it less than the Filson, but like it more, if that makes sense.

Waiting for Yeti to wrap up their R&D efforts on this front before I jump back into the market. Typically wayward scrap paper will now stay just as organized as the molecules of the ice cubes in my ice chest.

I use a Swissgear backpack but I have to fly for work and it makes for easy toting. If I didn't have to travel I'd get a Saddleback shoulder bag.

Do you use one of the newer scansmart backpacks that they claim you can send through airport security?

If so, how do you like it?
