Golfers over 6': can you use standard clubs?

I'm getting back into golf after not playing for a long time. I'm starting lessons this month, and plan to wait to get fitted for clubs til next year, to make sure I stick with it. In the meantime, I'm using standard men's clubs.
If you're over 6' tall, can you use standard clubs? Or did you need extra length? I realize this depends on arm length, etc.; I'm just trying to gauge the odds of needing to upgrade.

It depends on a lot of factors. I am 6'4 and play standard length clubs and prefer them. I use to play with +1" and could hit each club another 15 yards farther but really lacked consistency. I went back to standard length and never looked back.

Of course it depends on arm length, the lie angle will be more affected than length, I haven't seen many people that needed longer clubs until you hit the 6'5" and up range. Any decent store will fit you for free anyway.

Go get fitted for clubs and they'll be able to tell you.

I will. I'm a chick, and it's stupidly intimidating to me. I need to get over it.

I just started playing golf a few weeks ago. I'm 6'2 but had to get standard length because I just wanted to buy a cheap box set of clubs. I felt like they were way too short at first, but I'm starting to adapt to them. A guy over 6' can definitely use standard length but if you're playing competitively I'd obviously suggest fitted clubs.

Im 6'4 and have lengthened all my clubs 1.5 inches and my putter is 38"(3 inches longer than standard)..... its basically personal pref.

I use a set of women's clubs because I'm 5'4

You can play standards and then add length or have the loft bent later fairly easily if you find you need it. Ping is really good about bending their clubs and makes the whole process very easy.

Im 6'2" and use standard clubs. I've never been fitted for clubs before though so I don't know if I'd benefit from longer ones or not.

Thanks, everyone! This is reassuring. My arms aren't freakishly short compared to the rest of me, so my standards are probably fine. I'll have to own my topped shots & stop blaming my club length.

If you are a chick, you probably won't be able to hit women's standard. That changed everything.

To clarify, I'm using men's clubs. But I still wanted to ask, since I'm taller than most men.
