He is too tall for the junoir sets. Should you get adult size clubs and have them sized down?

Yes

ETA: Just get regular clubs and choke down.

How much is he going to play? You know that a teenage boy literally grows like a weed - like he could be 2 inches taller in a month, right?

I would get him adult clubs and let the chip shots fall where they may - maybe choke down a little bit if it's too long - I mean, really it's only the woods and the long irons that are a problem anyway, right?

Get adult sized clubs and just have him choke down on it. My dad bought me adult sized clubs when I was 12 or 13 and I gamed them until this year

Adult clubs and choke down.

Choked down 3/4 punch shots will serve him well for the rest of his life.

Agree with the adult sized. Also, get used clubs.

Ping has a set of "in between" clubs called Thrive. My son is 13 and they fit him perfectly and he loves them.

You could get older model clubs of any of the major brands off Ebay fairly cheap, just bring them to a pro shop and have them cut them down if your worried about the length.

At 13-14 he should probably start using adult sizes and choke down some.

Well he does have to keep up appearances since he swings a $500 bat on his travel team!

check your privilege bro. no one wants to hear about your overly tall progeny or your overly large bank account that can afford golf.

I got a set of used king cobra II irons off the advocate classifieds @ 11 years old for $200--left them standard length and played into them for a few years before stepping it up in early high school

I wouldn't recommend spending money on fitting or anything. Just when you go to buy him clubs, make sure you pay attention to what you're buying.

If you cut the length of standard clubs, make sure you buy clubs that are standard lie or a little flat. Not that it will matter that much, but you don't want to buy upright clubs and cut the length. It would just make them more upright, if that makes sense.

Odds are your kid isn't good enough to notice, most people aren't.
