close friend at work knows I lived in BR many years-moved out in 1995- and was asking best time to cross at BR or avoid BR, use 90 out of Lafayette and cross Miss river near NO.

He is leaving Houston on Tuesday for vacation with wife and 2 young kids. I suggested time he time it so that he hits BR at 6 in morning, take 12 to Slidell.

Is the traffic so bad at 6 in the morning that he would be better off taking 90 out of Lafayette and crossing at one of the downriver bridges? If so which one is easier?

thanks

He needs to be more concerned about when he hits the Mobile Tunnel.

No. I don't want him falling asleep at the wheel and killing me while I'm driving home from the bars.

Traffic backs up mostly due to wrecks (usually either on the Basin bridge or the MS River bridge), and you can't predict when that might happen.

But 6 a.m. Is a good time to drive through without hitting much traffic. Going west to east is going against most BR morning traffic anyway.

So leaving Houston around 1:30am? Screw that. I would leave Monday night and find a cheap hotel along the way if he wants to get to destin that early

honestly, you hear a lot of bitching around here about it but it is not that damn bad...just don't hit it at 7:30 am or 5:15 PM and there is not much to worry about at all...

Houston to Dallas to S'port to Funroe to Jackson to Birmingham to Mobile to FL.

Avoid Baton Rouge, particularly Burbank and E. Boyd.

Like someone else said, i would try to avoid Mobile rushhour more than BR. That damn tunnel is a terrible bottleneck on I10.

I imagine your friend reacted negatively when you told him to leave for vacation at 2 in the morning.

Yeah, I mean as long as it isn't Friday he'll be fine. It's not like Baton Rouge is some traffic Armageddon at 10am

BR is not that bad.

If he is coming from Houston he should be used to bad traffic. If he wants to avoid it I would suggest not driving through it in the morning/evening.

Mobile is what he should be worried about.

Your friend is dumb.

He should expect to be stopped for a while from 415 before the bridge then all the way through town anywhere from 2-6.

It won't be bad going east through Baton Rouge. You may hit a little between College and 110 from 3-5 but nothing out of the ordinary for any city.

Going to Destin I'd take 49 to 190 through Baton Rouge then get on I-12 wherever he can IF he can't be through BR by 2. He won't hit traffic if he can get through by lunch. Going back to Houston go through BR on 12 to 10. It won't be bad going East.

Leave Houstan at 7. Done with. BR by 11. Thru the tunnel by 2. You're good.

Don't detour through NOLA. It will take you way longer. BR traffic is bad but it's gonna better be better than taking long detours through other areas that may be as bad
