Not really. I mean, they are different but not that different. Unfortunately, people think they are.

Benzo's bind to GABA A receptors and alcohol binds to GABA B receptors. Now both have almost the same withdrawal symptoms if you're dependent on it. (Potential for seizures and even death).

They can also have a synergistic effect which proves that they act in a very similar manner. Which receptor sites they act on really doesn't matter in terms of the risks and the behavioral effects.

I'm guessing you have always had some trouble with sleep

To a degree. A real job and two small kids remedied that though.

mild stress management,

but you were experiencing a lot of life stressors around the time that you had that more severe episode.

The episode stemmed from a irrational incident where I convinced myself I had a brain eating amoeba and was going to die imminently that for some reason I couldn't shake long after I knew that wasn't true. Otherwise it was during the summer, I am a teacher, and had zero stress.

I was with a large group of friends but only one of them knew about my 'condition' because I was very self conscious about it and thought people would think I was crazy.. and it was all very weird to me, I've always been outgoing, a social butterfly if you will, who never minded being in large public places but when I started dealing with this shite, I was terrified to leave the house at times (these emotions started after the episodes)

Wow, been there before. The self-consciousness is the biggest thing for me. I think men in general just don't like to give any appearance of being weak, which is why they tend to ignore this kind of thing or let it get out of hand (me included).

Glad you're doing better. Personally, I've had a lot more success doing CBT/meditation type stuff than on medicine. Western culture doesn't seem to value that kind of stuff like it probably should. May think about that if it crops up again.

Given what you've shared here, Cymbalta seems a like really odd prescription, especially as a first line of treatment. I cannot stress how important it is to get a good medical workup if you haven't had one and to see a psychiatrist before discontinuing the cymbalta.

My GP started me on Lexapro and things got really bad really fast. Don't know if it was the Lexapro or what but I got in to see a psych and that's what she put me on but I didn't like her at all.

Things did get better when I started Cymbalta but I don't know if it was more of getting off Lexapro or just hitting rock bottom and bouncing back or if it was the new meds.

But yea I don't want to go back to that psych at all.

Been on Paxil 60 mg for 17 years. Never ever stop taking your medication without medical supervision.

I would probably need 9 months in order to come off this SSRI. This medications are nothing to play around with. I have OCD.

I don't know why Paxil isn't prescribed more for anxiety disorders, especially ocd, panic disordet, and gad. It works well for a lot of people with those disorders. It also helps with IBS, and for women it can alleviate pre menopausal symptoms.
