Going off anti-depressants
Posted by RandySavage on 2/15/17 at 10:08 am41
Just wondering what others had experienced with this. Been on Cymbalta for 4-5 months and ready to try and start weaning off.
How long after stopping should I start to experience the awful side effects I've read about?
Not looking for medical advice just curious how others have traversed this path...
TIA

That's good cause I'm sure you won't get it.

They are gonna last 2 weeks minimum.

Cymbalta has a short half-life so you will start to experience withdrawal symptoms in probably 2-3 days.

Very, very carefully.

You should probably consult with a doctor before you decide for yourself to start "weaning off"

What dosage are you on and how do you plan on weaning off?

Coming from experience you were probably put on them for a reason. If you're weaning because you feel better than you did it is probably not a good idea. If you don't like how the meds make you feel you should probably switch. Either way, the withdrawl symptoms suck (usually nausea and dizziness) and I'd ask your doctor. You definitely don't want to stop cold turkey.

This thread should get interesting.

I tried slowly weaning off (over the course of several weeks) twice and couldn't handle it. As long as I had a little bit in my system I was ok, but when I stopped taking it entirely it was like a hornet's nest inside my head and I had fits of anger. That's why I don't recommend to anyone to ever start taking anti-depressants, because once you get on you can't get off.

Just came off citalopram last week and I feel pretty good. I got on it last October after waking up from a coma and losing all my muscle to the point i couldn't move at all ( turns out coma's are not like the movies where you ask how long you were out and then jump out of bed). I got kind of depressed then and the following physical therapy. Now I'm back home and fairly mobile so I didn't see a need to continue.

I weaned myself off of a mid level dose of Celexa about a month ago. Was on it for about 6 months, started taking a pill every other day for 2 weeks then every third day. Now I take 1/2 a pill about twice a week. I get dizzy every now and then, but it hasn't been too bad. I can finally get off in bed now without killing the gf, so that's a nice side effect.

My brother was addicted to anti-depressants for a while. We had him substitute for LSD and he's been great ever since

Im on Cymbalta as well - 60mg. I would assume when it's time to wean off it would be smart to go very slow with it. Im thinking dropping down the 30mg for about a month, then 15mg for another month. Just speculating though, your Doctor will have the answer to this, not the OT.

Probably about a month of two before you stop getting the head zings.
