can the person who receives money have any way to see who donated the money if it was donated anonymously?

I don't think so.

But the reason why you're asking is probably more interesting.

Who you donating to and why?

The person who set up the gofundme can see where it came from... or at least on the one I set up for my cousin when he had multiple strokes in the same weekend. It wasn't the gofundme page but it was a similar site.

Why am I trying too hard? These are plagued all over Facebook yard sales for people's rent or vacations.

Can they be trashy? Of course. Are they all? Of course not.

You paint with a wide brush.

it is a long story....but...need to send a message publicly to shame them into shutting their page down....but if they find out it was me, my wife may lose a friend over it.

Good grief.

Is it worth it?

(that's rhetorical, BTW)

More importantly can someone set up a random gofundme for some random false cause then pocket the money? Are there any legalities? Asking for a friend....

An easier thing to do would be to just post a link to the gofundme in this thread. We'll take care of the rest.

The people who set it up can see it but you should definitely link it here
