Had some douche teens a few months ago shot my passenger rear vent window on my Sport Trac when I was hunting (drunk asses). The window finally began to break apart this weekend and with a hole about quarter sized in the middle. I called here in Mobile Precision Auto Glass ($904 + $75 install), Safelite ($1,011 + $90 install) and then I checked on Ebay and lord behold its only $95.50 with free shipping. Anyone else encounter such a rip off on auto glass? This is my first time ever replacing any vehicle window, so is the markup always that insane?

Enjoy driving down the interstate and having your window blow out.

If you have comprehensive insurance, the window is cheap/free depending on your deductible.

Mine is $0.

You'll pay for it over time.

I have a mechanic that I have used for years that lets me bring in my own parts (he actually prefers it). I buy parts off of Ebay or Rockauto.com and he installs them. I've never had a part fail or give me any problems. You just have to do your research on the manufacturer and the reliability of the seller.

Ebay and amazon are gods. Pay close attention to the product description and reviews.

People saying you are getting bad parts and you window will fall out are idiots. Most of the used parts on EBay are OEM take offs from junk yards. Why wouldn't you buy a "used" window for a fraction of the cost of a new one? It's not like the glass is less clear or something. I needed a side window for an older vehicle and bought an entire door shipped for half of what the dealership wanted for the glass.

You don't want to be buying products that didn't go through required testing like reputable companies have to do.

That's what you have to watch out for on eBay.

Yeah he will be fine if that's what he's buying. I've been pretty lucky though just going to pull apart places and finding what I need.

eBay is incredible. As is Amazon. They’re awesome for different reasons though.

Amazon Prime is incredible. And then often times I’ll use Amazon reviews for a product and then go on eBay and get it used or cheaper.

Also, I’ve gotten some steals on Overstock.com.

Same window would probably cost $3000 if Autozone sold it.
