I'm a huge fan of St. Jude and the work they do for children and right now with a donation of just $10 you can enter to be part of the first civilian space flight.
quote:

SpaceX’s first all-civilian space flight set for late this year will provide an out-of-this-world fundraising opportunity for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, which says it expects to generate $200 million for cancer research and other causes.

quote:

Richard C. Shadyac Jr., CEO of ALSAC, the fundraising organization for St. Jude, said the money raised will go toward the Memphis hospital’s $1 billion annual operating cost, as well as its global partnership with the World Health Organization. The overarching idea is to raise childhood cancer survival rates around the world from 20% to 60% by 2030.

article about it

donate to St. Jude

This is something I am actually fully behind and I hope everyone takes the time to make a donation to St. Jude and help out a child/family who may be going through a rough time.

I have a family member at St Jude now and from what I gather, they’re an amazing place and the experience through round one of chemo has been a success. His dad and mom are staying up there with him throughout his 3 months there.

It’s the only organization of its kind I’ve NEVER heard anything negative about, from fund raising admin cost to quality of services provided. It’s the only ‘cause’ or organization I donate to other than things like a niece school organization or something of that nature.

I love St Jude. How could there possibly be any better cause than helping poor little kids with cancer? Certainly more worthy cause than donating to a political group or candidate or a food bank to give fat people free food.

Awesome. Best of luck and continued success for future treatments. They are in good hands.

But those who do will receive special packages — from 100 entries for anyone giving $10 to a flight in a MiG-29, an authentic flight suit and VIP passes to the launch, as well as 10,000 entries, for those who donate $100,000. The winner will be chosen by random drawing March 1.

The childhood cancer survival rate is only 20%? For some reason I thought it was much higher than that. That is really shocking and depressing.

The survival rates vary widely. Some types of childhood cancer have gone from killing nearly every patient to nearly every one surviving solely due to St. Jude's work, other types are still pretty much a death sentence.

This is an awesome partnership to hear of.

We live in Memphis and have quite a few friends who work in IT either at St Judes or ALSAC. We’ve had a few formal tours and have gone to have lunch with friends in their cafeteria quite a bit. It’s amazing how much the Memphis community does for SJ’s and how much each major company here donates. Mom drives up from BR each year to run their marathon. SJ is seriously a cause that brings the community together.

I actually started a Non profit company last year to raise money for St Jude. We raised $80,000 in our first year in 2020. My goal is $100,000 this year. Its my passion and in my blood to do this. We have dear friends who have been there since last July with their child. St Jude is the greatest place on Earth!
